PISTACHIO AND CHOCOLATE BUTTER CAKE

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for greasing the pan

1¾ cups (7⅞ ounces) all-purpose flour

1¾ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon freshly ground cardamom

½ teaspoon kosher salt

⅓ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

7 ounces (about ¾ cup) pistachio paste

½ cup whole milk, at room temperature

3 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate (60 to 70 percent cacao) (about ¾ cup)

1¼ ounces (¼ cup) shelled raw pistachios, coarsely chopped

Confectioners’ sugar, for sprinkling (optional)
